This one time, a client asked us to create a podcast-generating AI… and we stepped into a world (yes, really) of challenges, possibilities, and some impressive results!
“We want AI podcasts on our blogs,” our client said confidently.
“Sure, we can make that happen,” we replied with equal enthusiasm.
But…as we dove into the project, it became clear that creating an AI-powered podcast generator that feels human, engaging, and brand-specific was no small feat. But here’s the spoiler: we did it. And it’s game-changing – we are on Spotify already!
Let us take you through our journey—the challenges we faced, the tools we explored, and how we built AI-generated podcasts that are professional, human-like, and surprisingly effective – basically, kind of… fire (not to brag).

AI in Marketing – Adding Depth
AI has already opened extraordinary avenues for the marketing industry, from personalized email campaigns to visually stunning ads. However, AI podcasting presents unique challenges. Unlike written or visual content, podcasts rely heavily on emotional connection, tone, pacing, and natural human voices—qualities that are difficult for AI to replicate.
(We already dislike the AI verbatim and the thought of robotic AI voices doing podcasts? Shudders.)
While AI can easily automate processes like script writing or audio narration, it’s the subtleties—tone, pacing, and personalization—that make podcasting a complex challenge. AI-generated podcasts need to sound engaging and natural, not robotic, to create that personal connection with listeners.
For us, this project was about more than just overcoming technical challenges. It was an exciting opportunity to craft something innovative: podcasts that deliver genuine value without the high cost of hiring podcasters or spending hours on audio production.
In our minds, we were aiming for the stars.

Why Are Podcasts A Big Deal in Marketing?
With over 546 million listeners worldwide in 2024 (and projected to hit 651.7 million by 2027), podcasts are a growing medium that marketers and business owners can’t ignore.
Here’s why:
- Unmatched Engagement: 47% of the U.S. population aged 12+ listens to podcasts monthly, making it an excellent channel to reach diverse demographics.
- High Ad Revenue: Global podcast ad spending is expected to reach$4.02 billion in 2024, reflecting marketers’ trust in this medium’s ROI.
- Multi-Platform Reach: Platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts dominate, collectively accounting for 64% of podcast consumption in the U.S.
- Niche Marketing Opportunities: Popular genres like comedy, society & culture, and true crime allow brands to align with targeted audiences effectively.
Podcasts offer endless marketing potential, and we knew this project had to succeed—not just for our client but also to pave the way for AI-driven podcasting innovation.
The Tools We Explored and the Challenges We Faced
Back to the story – to bring the client’s vision to life, we tested various AI tools, each with its strengths and limitations:
- GPT: Ideal for generating scripts and summarizing key points from lengthy articles or blogs.
- Gemini: Delivered high-quality audio with more natural-sounding voices.
- Google Notebook LM (Beta): A helpful AI research and note-taking assistant.
Despite their impressive features, these tools presented challenges:
- Limited Customization: Google’s platform lacked flexibility for adjusting podcast durations.
- Repetitive Tone: Many AI-generated voices sounded too similar, with dramatic expressions and minimal variety.
- Personalized Voices: Clients wanted unique, relatable personalities for each speaker, including their own voice.
The challenges called for a custom-built podcast solution, and we were game.

Our Custom Hybrid Solution
Since off-the-shelf solutions couldn’t meet all our client’s needs, we developed a custom hybrid system that combines pre-built AI models with tailored prompt engineering. Here’s how it works:
- Script Creation: GPT generates scripts that are engaging and concise.
- Audio Narration: Gemini transforms these scripts into audio with realistic tones.
- Dialogue Personalization: Advanced prompt engineering helps create unique speaker personalities.
- (Future Development) Voice Embedding: We’re working on embedding client-specific voices to make the podcasts even more personalized.
The result? AI-generated podcasts that are engaging, cost-effective, and quick to produce.
As we await client feedback, we’ve been testing this system internally—using Google Notebook LM (Beta) with customizations—and the results have been phenomenal.
